Blind Pig Signs Cash Box Kings
August 16, 2011
Blind Pig Records has signed the Cash Box Kings, a Chicago-based old-school outfit with a growing reputation for excelling at vibrant, deep-in-the pocket blues and roots music.

Their Blind Pig debut CD, "Holler and Stomp," will be released on October 4, 2011.

"The word on the street is that the Cash Box Kings are the up and coming young guns of the Chicago blues scene, and with good reason. The music has the liveliness and energy that only roots music genius can provide." -Chicago Blues Guide

The Cash Box Kings, winners of the 2010 Blues Blast "Sean Costello Rising Star" Award, are dedicated to carrying on the spirit of the 1940's and 50's post-war Chicago blues sound as well as the Delta blues music of the 20's and 30's.

But these illustrious torch bearers also add a bravado, energy and freshness to the mix that results in a distinctive, intense, old-school style of music that is rarely heard these days. With a focus on the raw, stripped-down, ensemble playing that was the hallmark of the post-war sound, the band pays homage to the music of Chess Records and Sun Records while adding a healthy dose of original music that captures the essence of the Memphis and Chicago blues sounds of the 40's and 50's.

On "Holler and Stomp" the Cash Box Kings put together a batch of songs that explore the various byways where traditional "blues" and "country" music intersect, with covers from the likes of Ray Sharpe, Hank Williams, Sr., and Muddy Waters. They also put their own stamp on the material, all recorded on
vintage equipment, by including seven original compositions.

Bandleader Joe Nosek said, "We are very proud of the music we created on 'Holler & Stomp.' I grew up listening to so many of the great releases that Blind Pig put out over the years by people like George 'Harmonica' Smith, Otis Rush, Jimmy Rogers, Pinetop Perkins, Buddy Guy, and Willie 'Big Eyes' Smith. It's an honor to be a part of a record label with that kind of history and roster. We're really thrilled to be working with Blind Pig to bring our take on traditional Chicago Blues music to a larger audience of old and new blues fans!"
